In the National Hockey League, The Washington Capitals will begin their quest for the Stanley Cup this week. Lead by a quartet of young and old Russian stars, the capitals will make it's first playoff appearance since 2003. In just his third NHL season, 22 year old Alexander Ovechkin, the top overall pick in the 2004 draft knows that the road to the Stanley will not be easy. [quote] Ovechkin's 65 goals and 112 points are tops in the NHL this year, which will most likely bring him the Hart trophy as the league's Most valuable Player.
But Ovechkin wasn't the only one who carried the Capitals from worst to first, he had some help from his fellow Russians, Alexander Semin, Viktor Kozlov, and rejuvenated 38-year-old Sergei Fedorov, who was brought over at the trade deadline. The four Russians have bonded on and off the ice and Fedorov has enjoyed the limited time he has spent on the ice playing with his countrymen.
